Speaking of ‘R’s, this gem by RI author Jill Austin is one of my favorites. This story introduces us to Riley, who just moved to Rhode Island, and is surprised that for the only state that begins with an ‘R’ – no one pronounces them! It’s a great story for anyone who grew up saying words like “Cah,” “Pahk” and “Lobstah”. In fact, even some speech pathologists are using the book to work on pronunciation.
